Honey & Beekeeping
Bees forage through fir forests, flower-rich meadows and heathlands to deliver exceptional honeys — from miel de sapin des Vosges, the only French PDO (AOP) honey, to the floral honeys of Alsace PGI (IGP).

The 'honey & beekeeping' category brings together regional honeys whose quality and provenance are recognised by an official label. Honeys are distinguished by their botanical origin: blossom honeys (polyfloral or monofloral, such as acacia, lavender and lime blossom) and honeydew honeys, produced from the secretions of sap-sucking insects on trees — including the famous fir honey, amber-hued and moderately sweet. Miel de sapin des Vosges was the first honey recognised under an appellation of origin, in 1996. It stems from an unbroken chain: an aphid settled in the Vosges fir extracts sap, which turns into honeydew, which the bee then forages. Almost black, sometimes tinged with green, it develops balsamic aromas and a malty flavour without bitterness. Miel d'Alsace, holding PGI status since the same year, comprises six crus — fir, chestnut, acacia, lime, forest and blossom. Regional beekeeping relies on wooded terroirs and unspoilt meadows, guaranteeing the floral biodiversity essential to the quality of the honeys.
