Official quality sign
Label Rouge
The only one of the six that speaks of quality, and the only one that disregards where the product comes from.
Label Rouge certifies superior quality compared to standard products of the same kind. It is a comparison, not an origin: obtaining it requires demonstrating, backed by trials and sensory analysis, that the product stands apart from its standard equivalent — through its rearing conditions, growth duration, or composition. It can therefore apply to any product, regardless of provenance, including from outside the European Union: it is the only official sign with no connection to geography, which explains why a single product frequently combines both a Label Rouge and a PGI (IGP). Its principle is recognised by the Agricultural Guidance Act of 5 August 1960.
